Plantation drive happened in Roorkee and Satkhol in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, 28 September 2019: Thousands of practitioners of Heartfulness across 13 states in the country diligently went about planting trees and shrubs to mark the 64th birthday of the Heartfulness Guide, Kamlesh Patel, who is also known as Daaji. In all, 64,000 were planted across 64 cities in a single day.

The plantation drive happened in Agra, Allahabad, Chennai, Coimbatore, Coorg, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kota, Lucknow, Madurai, Moradabad, Mysore, Nagpur, Patiala, Roorkee, Satkhol, Sholapur, Siligiri, Trichy, Trivandrum, Ujjain, and Vizag amongst others. All the 6,400 trees planted at Kanha Shanti Vanam are indigenous, and some are rare and critically endangered.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Saravanan from Kanha’s nursery and tree plantation operations said, “Tree plantation is one of several conservation efforts and one of the core activities of Heartfulness across all our ashrams. This year we are inspired by the UN theme ‘Climate Action for Peace’ and the Indian government’s Jalshakti initiative to conserve water, and we are concentrating our efforts in that direction to mark a very important day in our organization’s evolution as a social and ecological change maker.”

This plantation drive was a milestone and adds to the ongoing Heartfulness Green initiative to enrich the natural environment and lessen the destruction caused by human activities. The Heartfulness Green initiative emphasizes the need to grow ecologically, economically and socio-culturally important native species. More than 2.5 lakh trees and shrubs have already been planted at Kanha Shanti Vanam and the vision is to reach 10 lakhs. The Heartfulness volunteers across India have also committed to cultivating 640,000 saplings by the end of this year.
